“I was Joseph in our school nativity when I was about seven. My mum had made my costume out of an old bedsheet and a tea towel. I remember learning my lines. Everyone laughed when the sheep all went the wrong way. We still had photographs of it years later. I think that's what people forget about these things. It wasn't just a play. Your parents came to watch, everyone had a part, and you talked about it for weeks afterwards. It's such a shame if children don't get to do that anymore.“I was Joseph in our school nativity when I was about seven. My mum had made my costume out of an old bedsheet and it kept coming undone. I remember forgetting where I was supposed to stand and the teacher having to point me in the right direction. Everyone laughed, including my dad, who was sitting near the front with his camera. We still had photographs of it years later. I think that's what people forget about these things. It wasn't just a play. Your parents came to watch, everyone had a part, and you talked about it for weeks afterwards. It's such a shame if children don't get to do that anymore.”
